Clinique Age Defense BB Cream Review

2012 is clearly the year for BB Creams - aka Blemish Balms - in the UK, however the multi-tasking beauty product has been a hit in Asia for a while. Several beauty brands have launched BB Creams in the last few weeks and each differ slightly in what they offer.

Clinique promises to soothe, hydrate and conceal with its Age Defence BB Cream, but how does it work? Iron oxides and silica pigments provide coverage for fine lines and wrinkles, while vitamin E and a combination of chemical sunscreens provide SPF30 and protect skin from the environment, and caffeine soothes and stimulates.

To live up to its promise of hydration, Clinique has created a hydration complex comprising of trehalose, carboxylic acid both of which retain moisture, and sodium hyarulonate which is one of the best natural moisturising components. Together all three ingredients help hydrate and moisturise skin throughout the day, picking up where your day cream left off.

While Clinique’s BB Cream doesn’t quite live up to hype, it does provide a relatively good amount of coverage, especially if you use it as a primer and mix it with your foundation.

On its own the pink shade can wipe out natural colour and leave you with a blank canvas, making foundation and blusher or bronzer essential. If you are looking for a moisturising primer that will conceal stubborn blemishes however, this could definitely be a beauty buy for you.

Clinique’s Age Defense BB Cream is £25 from Clinique.co.uk.

Rating: 6/10 – The beauty product didn’t quite live up to its promises, however it’s a mixed review as if you did use it as a primer it would certainly excel. It just depends what you want from Clinique’s BB Cream.

Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm Review

Ever since Clinique launched the Chubby Stick earlier this year, the product has shot to the top of many must-have of best of beauty lists. With a crayola style appearance it definitely doesn’t look like your standard lip balm, however the nourishing formula of shea butter and jojoba seed oil ensures lips are left feeling soft and smooth.

The Chubby Stick also gives lips a hint of colour and, unlike traditional flat tipped balms, the pencil shape with a pointed tip allows you to draw it on with precision.
While the £15 price tag might seem a little expensive, this lip balm does last and doubles up as a lipstick and balm in one, so it is perfect handbag beauty buy.

Clinique’s Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm is £15 and available from Clinique.co.uk.

Rating: 10/10 – A fun, yet practical product.

Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus All-Smooth Foundation Review

As foundations go Clinique’s Repairwear Laser Focus All Smooth make-up scores top marks. The thick, creamy consistency offers a really good coverage, smoothing out any imperfections. It’s the perfect base for make-up as it creates a blank canvas with a very slight shimmer, which helps brighten complexion.

Only a small amount of the product is needed as too much can leave skin looking powdery and overworked. It’s fragrance-free and contains the all-important SPF 15.

Clinique’s Repairwear Laser Focus All-Smooth Makeup is available in twelve shades and is £27/30ml from Clinique.co.uk.

Rating: 7/10 – good value for amazing coverage, if you’re looking for a new foundation this one is definitely worth trying.

Clinique's Black Honey Almost Lipstick Review

If you were a fan of Clinique's Black Honey lipstick the first time round, you'll be pleased to hear that the brand have based the entire AW11 make-up collection around the cult classic shade.

Intense, rich and perfect for tapping into one of AW11's hottest beauty trends, gothic luxe, the Black Honey shade is the same as the original formula.

The real beauty of this particular colour is the amount of different shades you can create with it. If you're daunted by the dark burgundy, apply a small amount of the colour to the middle of your bottom lip and use a brush or your finger to spread it across the rest of your lips. You'll be surprised at the pretty cherry shade that's created.

The only downfall of this lipstick is that it seriously dries out your lips, so make sure you have a moisturising lip balm handy.

Clinique's Black Honey Almost Lipstick is £16 and available at Clinique.co.uk.

Rating: 6/10 - cracked lips are never a good look.
